Hi there and welcome to my little corner of the world. My name is Shawneen
and I’m a runner with a love of the hardware I earn at the end (yep, I have no problem admitting it 🙂 ). I have completed race distances from a marathon to a 5k. The half marathons are my favorite as the training is easily achieved and does not take a ton of time. I follow the Galloway training programs and love the run/walk. I am a slower runner (and proud of it 😀 ), averaging a 11:30 to 12:45 pace in my races, but that speed works perfect for me and allows great opportunities to take pictures throughout the course.
The rest of my time is spent working, exploring the outdoors and playing with my pups (Max and Rugen – Tibetan Terriers). I’ve created this site as a fun way to show off my races and outdoor active fun (I take a camera on any walk/run/hike/whatever I do outside) and challenge myself to continue to improve and share my love of running/walking/just being active in general.
The title is grey cells as in my little grey cells that Hercule Poirot (Agatha Christie character) is always using to solve mysteries. Running is great way to give my little grey cells a break from all my other activities.

Hello Shawneen,
Just a quick email to ask if you would be interested in a ‘mutual’ following on twitter. (#FYI I do RT’s ‘ANYTIME’ for all #Triathletes #Cyclists #UltraRunners #Marathoners #FitnessProfessionals who follow me on Twitter and have something important they want mentioned for support…Over 41K folks at your access.) I am currently following you now and am awaiting for your follow-back…
All the very best to you & your husband for the rest of 2013 & beyond Shawneed. Look forward to hearing from you…
(PS. Shawneen, should you follow back, I’ll be mentioning you in my #FollowFriday #Shoutouts this week…)

Thanks Darin and I look forward to learning from you and all your connections on twitter. 🙂
Hey, thanks for finding me. ;-). It’s nice to see a thin person that does the Galloway method (is there a great website/book you might suggest?)
I am starting training for my first half marathon today!!! :-). I would appreciate any training tips. I am also slow (er). I broke a 40 minute 5k for the first time this year. 🙂
I’ve found Galloways Training Programs good as is has training for different length races (10 k to marathon) and both programs for finishing (which is usually my goal) and programs for a time goal. I use the just finish program as its a little less time consuming but I still am able to finish strong in my races.
I’m sure you’ll do great on your training and I look forward to reading about your first half. 🙂
Thanks! 🙂
One of my friends tried it and she swears by it. Which book would you recommend? His website is really quite amazing, too.
This book is what I like to use.

Also check out rundisney.com and he has training plans on there you can just change the final date to what you’re wanting.
Thanks!
I found out about the Double Half Mary from a lady I met last weekend at the Eisenhower Marathon. Looks like fun. I’m thinking of signing up.

The Double Half Mary was a lot of fun. I took it nice and easy and loved just taking in the scenery and the challenge of it all! 🙂
I figure I will start doing back to back long slow runs so I can get use to 26 miles in 2 days. It’s been a couple of years since I ran my last marathon
Back to back runs will definitely help. Also the organizers let you start up to 30 minutes early each day if you don’t want or need an official finish time so you can take it easy.
I want an official time and my problem is I don’t know how to take it easy. I just need to learn to go out much slower then I usually do.
I went for an official time too for qualifying for the half fanatics. My problem is I’m good at starting out slow but I stay slow and never pick up the pace the second half like I know I can. 🙂
I wish I had the problem of starting slow. I hope to meet you in October.
